Mental hygiene is a process......!

We speak about Hygiene daily, so what is hygiene ? Hygiene has become so paranorm recently, you have to maintain so much. In the last couple of years especially during covid times, we remember washing hands ten times in a day and using santizers, isn't it? Sanitizers businesses were booming especially in covid times.

So What do you mean by the term Hygiene?

Is it referred to as internal or external cleaning ?

We normally clean our home everyday and deep clean it once in a year especially on Diwali festival. So just think what will happen if we don't clean our home daily. Dust and dirt will accumulate everywhere, clatter will happen, it will attract insects, mites etc imagine if we are not able to live there, we will not be able to use our house in an optimum way, isn't it.

In the same way, unhealthy body becomes a good host to unwanted pathogens . It will result in diseases and falling sick will happen .Disease body is like Vyadhi and a big obstacle and will have adverse effect on our body . So emphasis should be on keeping yourself clean which builds good health, high efficiency and ultimately good immunity.

Here , Yoga plays importance on Shaucha, which means purity of both body and mind, a word used for cleanliness which refers to both external and internal cleanliness.

Physical Hygiene is achieved through practicing of different Kriyas , Asanas, Pranayamas and control of over sense organs leading to Deh-Shuddi and to Chitta Shuddi. Coming to the mind, here mental hygiene plays very important requisite , your mind requires regular cleansing . For mind we have to focus on removing our prejudices, ego attachments and negative traits of the mind We have to constantly check our negativity, confusion and agitation etc .

In yoga we talk about of restraints (Yamas) and observances (Niyamas) the positive and negative virtues. Yama and Niyama are the foundation (base) of yogic practices, isn't it. That's why Maharishi Patanjali wrote Yama and Niyama first. So the base of your yogic sadhana of becoming a best person is to start with these first two steps of Ashtanga yoga i.e Yama and Niyama for self- improvement, breaking our old compulsive habits and leading to better course of life.

Further the yogic practices of Meditation ,Reflection , Nispand Bhav, Journalising, Mantra chanting also plays vital role in bringing the tranquility of mind .

So Every yogic practice that you do sitting quietly, yoga , your asana , your pranayama, your breathing exercises , unknowingly you are doing good a lot  to yourself, to your body physical as well as mental. Hygiene is brought about which remove your inabilities, your weaknesses and get you ready for concentration and you will change , become more stronger mentally as well as physically and visible change that you can see I am sure and your family and friends can observe as well.

Remember Mental hygiene is a science of gaining mental health and living happily in a society so Mental Hygiene is a PROCESS and Mental health is OUTCOME (END RESULT).
