Yoga Nidra:Effortless Relaxation
Good health is what nature intended for us. Being in good health should be the norm. But life can be demanding, unpredictable, and at times deeply challenging. The ups and downs of daily life usually makes our body wear out. Since we are constantly dealing with one distress event or another, the physiological changes used by the body to cope are always in "ON" mode. They don't get a chance to rest. The all-important stress response is thus over used. Our organs and systems are not meant to handle perpetual stress -neither in terms of quality nor quantity . Therefore, the system starts giving way to aches and pains, diseases and ailments. This starts a Stress- Illness cycle that needs to be broken.
And it can broken through a very powerful form of ancient guided meditation relaxation practice known as "Yoga Nidra'. Yoga Nidra also called "Yogic sleep" or" Effortless Relaxation" which creates a highly relaxed but alert state. It helps in bringing awareness back onto breath ,the body and then external environment. You need to turn inwards in this process which helps the body to heal.
It's usually practiced lying down in comfortable position. The goal is for the body to be completely relaxed while the mind is awake and focussed inward. During the course of Yoga Nidra, one learns to surf between the state of wakefulness and sleep, where your body find its natural state of equilibrium(homeostasis ) and the breath balances and becomes quiet.
It really improves your sleep, from restless nights you can have restful nights. This is the key and this decreases your tension, eliminates your tension, reduce stress and anxiety ,your backache, headache all of them by calm , body and mind. With this progressive muscle relaxation practice , it helps both your body and mind bringing complete body awareness.
So practicing Yoga Nidra can improve sleep and memory, enhance your relaxation, help manage PTSD ( post traumatic stress disorder), reducing pain, managing symptoms of Type II diabetes, enhancing cognition and memory and improved functioning of the immune system, thereby improving overall health.
Understand when we learn to relax the body consciously, the mind becomes relaxed so conscious relaxation usher relaxation of both the body and the mind . So let go of the busyness of your mind and sink into the state of profound peace as the practice of "Yogic Sleep" gives the body time to Rest, Recover and Restore and finally Reset our Improved functioning of the immune system.
